Sports Awareness Field Trips — Inspiring the Next Generation

Our goal is for students to acquire a greater appreciation and enthusiasm for sports, with exposure to opportunities they may not have had otherwise. Fire 'n' Ice Sports Arena provides a world-class, safe, and exciting environment where kids rotate through ice sports and dry sports across our 250,000 sq ft facility.

Participation and lunch are provided at absolutely no cost to parents or students. The school is only responsible for providing transportation to and from the arena at 2775 W. Bronco Butte Trail, Phoenix, AZ.

  • 🏭 Grades: 2nd and 3rd grade (4th grade may be added for smaller schools)
  • 👪 Group Size: Minimum 75 students, maximum 175 students
  • Schedule: Arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. — depart at 1:00 p.m.
  • 📅 Availability: Monday through Thursday, throughout the school year
  • 🕐 Lead Time: Reservations must be submitted at least 60 days in advance

Ice Sports & Dry Sports — A Full Day of Action

Students are split into rotating groups that cycle through our ice sports and dry sports stations, ensuring everyone gets a turn at every activity.

Learn-to-Skate Treadmill

Kids are safely strapped into a harness on our skating treadmill — no falls possible! The perfect introduction to ice skating for first-timers.

Figure & Hockey Skating

Students who need extra coaching use our smaller artificial rink with instructors nearby. More confident skaters enjoy figure and hockey skating on our full NHL-size ice.

Time permitting, students play stick hockey on our artificial ice rink — in their regular shoes! A thrilling introduction to one of the fastest sports in the world.

STEM Experiences

Students are introduced to real-world STEM concepts including our Solar-Powered Facility and our Automated Driver-Free Zamboni — technology in action!

A Perfectly Planned 4-Hour Experience

9:00 a.m.

Arrival & Check-In

School buses arrive at 2775 W. Bronco Butte Trail. Students are welcomed by arena staff, groups are organized, and safety gear is distributed. Prompt arrival is critical.

9:15 a.m.

Ice Sports Rotation

Groups rotate through the learn-to-skate treadmill, coaching rink, and full ice rink for figure skating and hockey skating. All skates and safety gear provided.

10:45 a.m.

Dry Sports Rotation

Groups move to our NBA-standard courts for basketball, volleyball, and time permitting, pickleball and dodgeball. High energy, team-building fun.

12:00 p.m.

Pizza Lunch & Film

Students enjoy a free pizza lunch followed by a short film and group discussion on sports etiquette, teamwork, and sportsmanship values.

12:45 p.m.

STEM Showcase & Wrap-Up

Students explore our solar-powered facility and witness the automated driver-free Zamboni in action — a memorable STEM moment before departure.

1:00 p.m.

Departure

Students board transportation for the return trip to school. A memorable day of sports, learning, and fun comes to a close.

Eligible Grades

2nd and 3rd grade students. Smaller schools may add 4th graders to meet the minimum count of 75 students.

Group Size

Minimum 75 students, maximum 175 students per trip. Contact us if your school has special circumstances.

Transportation

School must provide transportation to and from the arena. Arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. Depart at 1:00 p.m.

Reservations must be submitted at least 60 days before the desired participation date. Provide 3+ date options.

What to Wear

Long pants (required for ice), a light jacket, and athletic shoes. Athletic shorts are optional for dry sports.

Parent permission slips are mandatory for every participating child. Required legal language is included in the application.

"Unfortunately, sometimes children can be injured in sports participation especially when hard surfaces and other kids are involved. The arena staff makes every effort to ensure a safe environment and has medical assistance readily available for minor scrapes and bruises. On the rare occasion of a more serious medical condition, the student may be forwarded for treatment at the Emergency Room of Honor Health Hospital located one mile away from the arena."
